Don’t Wait Until It Is Too Late!
The American Cancer Society recommends all adults get screened for colorectal cancer at age 45. Even without a family history, signs, or risk factors, you can still be at risk. If you’re 45 years old or older, talk to your doctor about whether a colonoscopy or another screening option is right for you. Colorectal cancer is now the second-leading cause of cancer- related deaths in America, yet over 90% of cases are treatable if detected early. It’s astonishing how one simple test can make such a significant difference in your life. Make sure to schedule your exam soon if you haven’t already done so.
How Much does a Colonoscopy Cost?
For cash pay, the average cost of a colonoscopy in the U.S. is $2750, according to CareCredit. But the procedure can cost up to $4800, or more.
A “screening” colonoscopy generally costs less than a “diagnostic” colonoscopy (which includes a biopsy or polyp removal). The average cost also depends on the setting, whether it is done in an outpatient facility ($2550) or an inpatient facility ($4350). This amount greatly increases if multiple polyps are found, due to additional pathology charges.
If you have a private health insurance plan or Medicare, a screening colonoscopy is covered with no out-of-pocket costs as a preventative health service under the Affordable Care Act. However, if during the screening colonoscopy the physician removes a polyp or performs a biopsy, the procedure may be considered “diagnostic” and therefore may not be covered as a screening exam, since a diagnostic colonoscopy is not considered a preventative health service. So in these cases, insurance companies may transfer the financial responsibility to the patient for all or part of the procedure costs, thus triggering their deductible, copays, and coinsurance.
Typically, a colonoscopy will result in the patient being billed by 4 different entities:

What is a colonoscopy and what can it detect?
A colonoscopy is a procedure where Dr. Earl examines your entire large intestine using a colonoscope, a flexible fiber optic scope equipped with a camera and light.
Dr. Earl can identify various problems in the colon, including early signs of cancer, inflamed tissue, ulcers, and bleeding. Additionally, polyps, which have the potential to develop into cancer, can be removed during the procedure.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Your Colonoscopy Experience
To conduct a thorough examination, the colon must be clean. In order to do this, patients follow a low residue diet the day before, then consume a liquid prep that cleans out the colon.
You will be instructed to lie on your left side with your knees drawn up toward your chest.
Your anesthesia will be administered by a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) who will monitor you carefully throughout the procedure. Ensuring your safety and comfort during the procedure is our priority
During the procedure, air will be introduced into the bowel to aide in obtaining a clear view for Dr. Earl.
Water irrigation and/or suction may be employed for cleansing purposes.
You will be moved to a supervised recovery area, where you will remain until you feel fully awake and able to drink liquids.
Your blood pressure and pulse will be monitored.
You will then be discharged to the family member or friend you have designated to drive you home.
After your colonoscopy, you are free to consume any foods of your choosing, although starting with a small, bland meal may be advisable.
Ensure adequate hydration by drinking plenty of fluids, but refrain from consuming alcohol for the next 24 hours.

What is an EGD and what can it detect?
An esophagogastoduodenoscopy (EGD) or upper endoscopy is a procedure to examine the upper GI tract. After you are sedated, an endoscope, a lighted camera on the end of a tube, is passed down your throat to visualize your esophagus, stomach, and the first part of your small intestine.
This procedure is often used to investigate symptoms of abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, nausea & vomiting, heartburn, unexplained weight loss, anemia, or blood in bowel movements.
The EGD procedure with Dr. Earl is only $1125, including anesthesia, pathology, facility fee and endoscopist fee.
